Ingredients
Meatballs
  • 2lbs ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • ½ onion, finely chopped (sauté ahead of time if you like, or add in raw)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2½ tsp GF soy sauce
  • 1 tsp GF Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese, optional
  • ¼ cup GF breadcrumbs (or 3 Tbsp almond flour)
Sauce
  • ½ cup GF soy sauce
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 5 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2½ tsp rice vinegar
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp cold water
  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds (garnish)
  • 1 bunch green onions, chopped (garnish)
Instructions
  1. For meatballs, in a large bowl lightly whisk egg then add in onion and ground beef, mixing gently. In a small dish add remaining ingredients, stirring well, then add to beef mixture, use hands to ensure everything is evenly incorporated. Shape into meatballs (I used my smallest cookie scoop), then place on a lined baking sheet. Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes.
  2. For sauce, combine all ingredients in a dish. Place meatballs into 4-quart Dutch oven, then pour over sauce. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Just before serving, combine water and cornstarch in a dish then stir into pot to thicken the sauce.
  3. Serve with rice and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions if desired.
