Place dates, baking soda and chopped chocolate in a glass or metal bowl, pour boiling water over all and cover bowl with a plate to retain heat then set aside.
In a food processor or bowl of stand mixer beat eggs, oil, and honey.
In a separate bowl blend all of the dry ingredients.
Add the date mixture to the egg mixture along with the vanilla in the food processor and blend until smooth.
Add dry ingredients to the food processor all at once (including nuts if using) and blend until all incorporated, it will become very thick.
Pour batter into a greased 9 inch square baking plan, and bake at 350°F for approximately 30 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
