There are so many recipes that call for soy sauce. But what about those people that are allergic to soy? Specialty soy-free soy sauces can be expensive, that’s if you can even find them in your area.

My version has a deep rich flavor, and is pretty darn close to the real thing if I do say so myself!

A perfect soy-free substitute for soy sauce.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 Tbsp GF liquid beef bouillon concentrate or 3 Tbsp dry
  • 1 Tbsp GF balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp molasses
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 pinch white pepper
  • 1 pinch garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions
 

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, stir together all ingredients and bring to a boil.
  • Simmer gently until liquid is reduced to about 1 cup (15 minutes).
  • Refrigerate up to 3 weeks.

  1. What is sodium content? I’m not only on GF diet but also Cardiac and can only have 1500 mgs of sodium per day. Any ideas what I can use to sub for soy sauce”

  2. 269mg of sodium, however if you omit the salt and use a low-sodium GF bouillon that will be much less. If you don’t like this recipe for a soy sauce substitute, you can use a GF Worcestershire sauce – it’s not the same flavor, but will give you the same depth and concentration of flavor to a dish.

  3. Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, GF Tamari, GF Worcestershire are similar in that they are a highly concentrated burst of flavor – a little goes a long way. Most of these have a low-sodium version that may be less than that of low-sodium soy sauce. Or for certain recipes you could try GF balsamic vinegar.
