Black bean paste or miso paste is sometimes hard to find in a regular grocery store, so our first version has ingredients that are readily available and could already be in your pantry.

  • 4 Tbsp GF soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp peanut butter
  • 2 Tbsp molasses
  • 2 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp Siracha (or other GF hot sauce)
  • ⅛ tsp pepper
  • ¼ tsp mustard powder
  • ⅛ tsp onion powder
Version 2 (makes about 1 cup)
  • 1 Tbsp oil (of your choice)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp Chinese five-spice powder
  • ½ cup red miso paste
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp rice vinegar
Version 3 (makes about 1 cup)
  • 6 Tbsp dark brown sugar

  • ½ tsp Chinese five-spice powder
  • ½ tsp sesame paste
