Asian Nachos

A unique twist on nachos using deep-fried home made gluten-free won ton wrappers instead of corn chips.

Once you have made our gluten free won ton recipe (link below), cut them into strips about 1×3″, brushing off any excess flour from the wrappers.  Fill a wok or heavy pot with at least 2 inches of oil (like corn, peanut or canola) and bring to 350°F. Gently place a few wrappers at a time into the hot oil – don’t overcrowd the pan, do this step in a few batches. Use tongs or chopsticks to flip the strips once they start to turn golden, about 15-30 seconds. AsianNachos2

Remove and place on wire rack to drain. AsianNachos3

Finley chop all the vegetables. You can use a cooked chicken breast finely diced, or use ground chicken. Cook the chicken until no longer pink. Once everything is prepared, place won ton wrappers on a baking sheet and top with chicken, veggies and cheese. Broil until cheese is melted then drizzle with the sweet Thai chili sauce. Ingredients

Oil for frying

    Toppings

    • Ground chicken or cooked chicken breast finely diced
    • Red pepper finely diced
    • Cucumber finely diced
    • Cheddar grated
    • Green onion minced
    • Sweet Thai Chili Sauce

    Instructions

    • Fill a wok or heavy bottom sauce pan with at least 2" of oil (corn, canola, peanut - or any other oil with a high smoke point), and heat to 350°F.
    • Once you have made the won ton wrappers, cut them into 1x3" strips (dust off any excess flour) and place a few at a time into the hot oil. Use tongs or chopsticks to flip wrappers once they start to turn golden. Place on a wire rack to drain, repeat with remaining wrappers. For different textures, loosely fold or twist the wrappers as you place them into the hot oil.
    • Fry chicken until no longer pink. Finely chop veggies.
    • To serve, place fried wrappers on a baking sheet, top with chicken, veggies and green onions. Sprinkle with grated cheese and broil until cheese is melted. Remove from oven and drizzle with sweet Thai chili sauce.

    Notes

No measurements are included - use as much or as little of the toppings as you like!

    1. Are wonton wrappers gluten free? I didn’t know that. I thought they were made out of flour. Learn something new every day. Thanks

    2. If you have to brush off excess flour on these wontons, doesn’t that mean they are NOT gluten free! Are the wontons made with flour?

    3. I am very confused. I thought won tons were made with flour, so not gluten free. Do you know of gluten free won tons?

    4. I have never tried an airless fryer (hard to believe there is a kitchen gadget I don’t have!). But if you try, please let me know how it turns out!

    5. No, regular won ton wrappers you find at the store contain gluten. However in the recipe I have provided a link to our own gluten free won ton recipe.

    6. In the recipe I have linked to our gluten free won ton recipe, which are made with gluten free flours. I was just using the word flour in general terms, meaning gluten free flour, since every recipe on our site is gluten free. Sorry for the confusion.

    7. No they are not – I highly doubt you’ll find any gluten free won ton wrappers at your grocery/health food store, which is why we created our own gluten free version. I have included a linked to the recipe for won ton wrappers (highlighted in blue) in the Asian Nachos recipe. Sorry for the confusion, I should have put the “GF” in front of the ingredient.

I can’t believe you recommended Canola Oil!! The rest sounds OK, but not easy to find GF won ton wrappers,

    10. Everyone is free to choose their own substitutes for whatever I include in my recipes. The hot button ingredients most definitely seem to be canola oil, soy, corn, and sugar.

So whenever I refer to ‘oil’ in a recipe please feel free to choose whatever type of oil you are comfortable with consuming. The only reason I listed canola, along with the corn and peanut oil, is because these oils are ideal for deep frying due to their high smoke point. But by all means use any other oil you want, it is up to you and you alone to decide what you consume.

    11. will try this recipe- have been looking for a gluten free won ton wrapper so I can make Asian recipes
